Moto 2 & 3 are part of the MotoGP Championship calendar of events, it’s where most will start their Moto journeys beginning with Moto 3 then hopefully progressing onto Moto 2 leading to the holy grail of 2 wheel racing that is …… MotoGP !!!!
MOTO2 championship ( round 10 ), and the British Grand Prix, and it all came down to the final corners with Jake Dixon putting in a determined final lap to pull of a memorable win in front of his home fans at Silverstone.
Aron Canet on the Fantic Racing machine had started second and taken an early lead, but with Dixon in behind pole man Ai Ogura. The Japanese rider started to fade away and that left the duo out front together for much of the race.
The Fantic Racing bike stayed ahead until the very last lap, when a small error from the Spaniard left the door open and Dixon pounced.
The patience to sit in behind had paid off and stronger on the first corners, Dixon pulled out a visible gap.
The #44 remained stronger on the latter part of the track, but could not find a way back around, with Dixon running tight neat lines and hugging the kerb to block, with enough space to wheelie over the line for a win - his first since the Catalan round last year and the first by a British rider since Danny Kent won the Moto3 race back in 2015.
MOTO3 championship, also ( round 10 ) and it was electric from start to finish with multiple lead changes, but it was a decisive move from Ivan Ortola out of Maggots which sealed victory.
Giving himself a perfect 20th birthday present, the MT Helmets -MSI rider had been immediately in the mix from pole position but saw Joel Kelso and Daniel Holgado amongst the early leaders as a large pack of eleven contenders developed.
Several breakaways were attempted but soon reeled back in, due to the slipstream nature of the track, so timing was everything.
As the pace increased, the front pack broke away to a top seven, with everything coming down to the last lap.
Collin Veijer made his move at the front, taking over from David Alonso to lead a spectacular finale.
The Liqui Moly rider had looked to have moved forward at the right time, but Ortola placed his KTM perfectly into Maggots to hit the front, pulling tight to the white line to block the riders behind.
A wide line though the final turn gave a glimmer of hope but the #48 slammed the door shut to lead over the line by just 0.123s.
His efforts were awarded with a birthday cake to the face from his team in parc ferme.
The MotoGP circus continues on the 16-18th August at the RedBull Ring in Austria, Also know as the Motorrad Grand Prix Von Osterreich
