The Autosport International Expo at the NEC took place recently. A regular highlight in the motorsport calendar, and this year's event, did not disappoint. Held over 4 days, including the weekend, the expo showcased everything from the latest engineering innovations, Motorsports Suppliers to advanced driver training programs, Motorsports influencers and superstar athletes. Specifically, Thursday and Friday emphasized the Engineering and Suppliers exhibitors, who made significant waves in the motorsport community.

We got to chat Alan O'Neil from SCU MOTORSPORT about his company’s mission to develop the next generation of motorsport mechanics and engineers. With a focus on practical skills and hands-on experience, SCU is committed to scouting and nurturing talent in the world of motorsport.

But O'Neil wasn’t the only voice advocating for the next generation of Motorsports professionals. Sponsors4Racing also made a notable impression with their stand that featured Athlete Development Coaching services and the Toorace Driver PPE Ambassadorship Program. Their aim to enhance the skills of young racers and provide the necessary protective gear made for an engaging conversation piece. The emphasis on athlete well-being and safety in motorsport is paramount, and it was wonderful to see a dedicated team making waves in this area. Sponsor4Racing also invited a number of Racers and Teams to participate at this years event, including Fire Fighters Junior Racing and Jade Racing... Santa Pad Racers.....

Great to see some really interesting Motorsport professionals taking the stage at this years show. Huge thanks to Bryn Lucas on his excellent interviewing skills and for hosting Sponsors4Racing "Athlete Development" discussion with S4R's Matthew Jordan, Jason McCarthy and one of the UKs favourite Motorsport athlete, Max Coates. "Its getting very difficult to gain and maintain Sponsorship and racing funds and drivers need to have as many business skills as possible, plus the support from Motorsports media, and Sponsors4Racing have offered support for some years now". Max told Pitlane News.

During the walk through the aisles, we had the pleasure of bumping into Misha Chadourin, who was exhibiting several high-performance vehicles. It was an opportune moment to chat about our shared love for the Nurburgring, his eyes lighting up as he reminisced about the thrills of racing on the iconic track. Misha’s enthusiasm was palpable; he spoke of the adrenaline rush of pushing vehicles to their limits in such a beautifully chaotic environment. His showcase of performance vehicles further attracted attention, garnering admiration from visitors both young and old.

Visitors highlighted the depth of talent on display—companies like Race Tech and MIRA (Motor Industry Research Association) offered insights into the latest research and development programs. The collaboration between academia and industry was a hot topic, showcasing how important it is to foster young talent while continuing to advance motorsport technology simultaneously.

We also noticed several suppliers specializing in high-performance automotive parts. They were eager to engage with attendees, discussing everything from custom chassis designs to lightweight materials. The passion within these companies was evident, as many representatives were former racers themselves, turning their love for motorsports into a business that fuels their lives.

75 Years of F1

On the main stage, the excitement continued with Ollie Bearman, the 2025 HAAS F1 driver. He answered questions from an eager crowd, providing insights into the life of a Formula 1 driver, his experiences on the track, and future aspirations. His approachable demeanor and charisma made him a fan favorite, and it was clear that the audience enjoyed connecting with a rising star in the F1 world.

The Evolution of F1: From Fangio to Hybrid Tech

Formula 1 has always been a thrilling blend of speed, skill, and cutting-edge technology. The progression of F1 cars, drivers, and sponsorship has crafted an exciting narrative that showcases the relentless drive of innovation in motorsport.

Let's crank the clock back to the 1950s, where the legendary Juan Fangio took the wheel of the iconic Maserati 250F. This era was where the seeds of what we now know as F1 were sown, with a focus on technical advancements that would soon become the norm. Fast forward to the 1990s, and we witness a revolution with cars like the Williams FW15C. This beast introduced active suspension and traction control, transforming race performance and setting new benchmarks for what was possible on the track. Drivers like Nigel Mansell pushed boundaries, showcasing not just their driving prowess but also the power of the machines they commanded.

Today, we find ourselves in an exhilarating new chapter with up-and-coming talents like Ollie Bearman driving for Haas. The cars zooming around the track now boast hybrid technology, sophisticated aerodynamics, and a strong emphasis on sustainability. The landscape of F1 continues to shift, reflecting not only advancements in engineering but also the changing dynamics of our world.

Art aficionados had another treat with a stunning bronze sculpture of the three-time F1 champion Ayrton Senna, crafted by renowned artist Paul Oz. As part of the 75 Years of F1 exhibition, this piece served as a poignant reminder of Senna's legendary status within the motorsport community.

So, whether you're captivated by the roaring engines or the behind-the-scenes engineering feats, the story of Formula 1 remains a remarkable journey of growth and competition. Buckle up, seasons gonna get interesting.. 💪💪🏁

One of the standout attractions was none other than the Nissan GT-R, piloted by Steve ‘Baggsy’ Biagioni and Shane Lynch. The duo brought their drifting prowess to the arena, showcasing their skills during one of the many live performances. Spectators were on the edge of their seats as Baggsy’s 1000hp Liberty Walk Nissan GT-R and a high-powered Toyota GT86, both from SB Motorsport, effortlessly drifted in sync, creating a symphony of roaring engines and squealing tires. It was a thrilling demonstration that truly highlighted the art of drifting.

Of course, rally enthusiasts were not left behind. The TOYOTA GR YARIS Rally2, driven by Meirion Evans and Jonathan Jackson, was prominently featured, celebrating their impressive triumph in the 2024 British Rally Championship. With Chris Ingram and Alex Kihurani snatching the drivers' title and leading their team to championship glory, these rally stars had plenty of reasons to be in the spotlight.

The excitement didn’t stop there; Terry Grant enthralled audiences with his drifting and stunt skills alongside show commentator Miss Emma Walsh. With a packed crowd witnessing his jaw-dropping maneuvers, the live stage buzzed with energetic applause, making it an unforgettable spectacle.

Classic car lovers were also in for a delight, with an array of antique vehicles gracing the floors, including the eye-catching BMW ‘Luigi’ that stood out with its iconic design. The presence of the BMW Car Club GB showcased a fabulous M-powered E92 Coupe, further emphasizing the depth of automotive history on display.

Lastly, the agile NASA Racers, often known as the National Autograss Sport Association, showcased their V8 powered single-seaters, demonstrating speed and precision as they raced around the arena. The sheer spectacle of twin motorbike engines roaring in harmony provided a thrilling finish to the day.
