In a challenging start to the Probite Motorsport UK British Rally Championship, Chris Ingram and Alex Kihurani claimed victory at the Legend Fires North West Stages on Saturday, March 23rd. The event witnessed intense competition and unexpected twists, setting the stage for an exhilarating season ahead.
Ingram powered his Volkswagen Polo GTi through Lancashire's demanding lanes, clinching four fastest stage times to claim his first BRC victory. This achievement earned him maximum points in a highly competitive field of contenders.
2021 Junior BRC champion William Creighton and co-driver Liam Regan showcased their skill by securing second place overall in their Ford Fiesta Rally2, following a remarkable podium finish at the West Cork Rally just a week prior.
Not far behind, Meirion Evans and co-driver Jonathan Jackson clinched the third podium spot, contributing to the Castrol MEM Rally Team's early lead in the BRC Teams Championship, despite limited prior experience with the all-new Toyota GR Yaris Rally2.
However, the day was not without its challenges for the competitors. James Williams encountered initial setbacks with his Hyundai i20 N Rally2, yet managed to salvage fourth place alongside co-driver Ross Whittock, accruing valuable points in the BRC campaign.
Neil Roskell and Dai Roberts demonstrated their resilience by securing fifth place in their Ford Fiesta Rally2, despite an encounter with a bale chicane on the final stage.
Meanwhile, Keith Cronin and Mikie Galvin faced a series of setbacks throughout the day, including a puncture and mechanical issues. Despite these challenges, they managed to clinch the sixth spot.
The morning session saw several incidents prompting organizers to cut short the opening loop of stages, cancelling the fourth and fifth stages for all competitors. However, the afternoon leg proceeded as planned, albeit under wetter conditions, reigniting the battle among the contenders.
Osian Pryce displayed exceptional speed on the Beacon Fell repeat, outpacing his competitors by an impressive eight seconds in his Fiesta Rally2. However, his rally ended abruptly during SS7 due to mechanical issues.
Overall, the Legend Fires North West Stages provided a thrilling start to the BRC season, showcasing the talent and determination of the competitors. With the championship now underway, anticipation is high for the next round at the Rallynuts Severn Valley Stages in Wales.
