Drivers Pascal Wehrlein and three-time Le Mans winner André Lotterer will represent Porsche in this year’s Formula E Championship Season 9 as the German marque commits to the Gen3 era.
Following a 30-year hiatus from single-seater racing, the Porsche returned to the discipline by joining the Season 6 Formula E grid in 2019, securing a podium in its first ever E-Prix race.
Formula E and the FIA are together shaping the Gen3 era to focus on increasing vehicle performance and efficiency, with faster and lighter cars set to make an appearance, alongside faster charging applications and cost control measures.
“We are delighted that Porsche is committed to a long-term partnership with Formula E,” explained Jamie Reigle, the chief executive officer of Formula E. “Porsche’s presence within Formula E is immense and they’ve demonstrated they will be a driving force in our development. We’re looking forward to collaborating on Gen3, with the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship remaining a proving ground for their next generation of race-to-road electric vehicle technology.”
